Patrick Penninckx is the Secretary General of the European Seniors’ Union, a European, political, non-governmental organisation, with the key aim to promote the rights of seniors in all domains of life, with a key focus on inter-generational dialogue, active (digital) citizenship and the promotion of the positive contribution of senior citizens to public and private policy shaping and democracy.
Patrick has 40 years of being professionally active, 35 of which have been at the Council of Europe, especially focused on transformation processes in the Organization, developing partnerships with other international organizations and national partners. Over the past ten years in the Council of Europe, Patrick was the Head of the Information Society Department and the Digital Development and Governance Department. The Department developed policy standards on Artificial Intelligence, Electronic Evidence in Cybercrime and the modernized Data Protection Convention (108+). These areas remain of great concern in the mandate to defend senior citizens’ rights.
