Alison Bough is based in Ireland and works as Head of Policy & Advocacy with Active Retirement Ireland, the country’s largest membership organisation for older people, representing over 24,000 members nationwide. Her work focuses on ageing, participation, health, and the rights and wellbeing of older people, with a strong emphasis on supporting people to remain active, connected, and engaged in their communities. Alison’s background is in Health Psychology, and she brings a behavioural and social perspective to ageing — particularly how people adapt to retirement, maintain wellbeing, and navigate the changes that come with later life. Through her work, she engages closely with older people across Ireland and advocates for a more positive, rights-based approach to ageing. She is particularly interested in the role of social connection, purpose and participation in shaping how people experience later life, and in challenging the idea that ageing is primarily about decline or care.
